What Is Radon
Radon is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. It is a cancer-causing, radioactive soil gas that comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water.
Due to the “stack effect” it is sucked into your house through cracks and other openings in the foundation.
Because of the amount of time we spend in our homes, exposure to radon is of a critical concern.
Radon is estimated to cause thousands of deaths each year.
When you breathe radon-contaminated air, you are increasing your risk of lung cancer.
In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today--just behind smoking. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, your risk of lung cancer is especially high.
CanSAR brings social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories to prevent radon-induced lung cancer. Cancer Survivors Against Radon (CanSAR) is dedicated to preventing radon-induced lung cancer and saving lives through education and awareness.
